The Oaks Golf Links

From the beginning, we've known that the site for The Oaks Golf Links is very special. In fact, it resembles the area south of London, England, called the Heathland where many of the world's greatest golf courses were built in the 19th century.

Somersworth NH

Somersworth, originally called Sligo after Sligo in Ireland, was settled before 1700 as a part of Dover. It was organized in 1729 as the parish of Summersworth, meaning summer town, because during that season the ministers would preach here. It was set off and incorporated in 1754 by Colonial Governmor Benning Wentworth, and until 1849 included Rollinsford. A clerical error at incorporation contracted the name to Somersworth. It would be incorporated as a city in 1893, before which it was also known as Great Falls.

Rochester NH

Rochester, known as the Lilac City, is located in southeastern New Hampshire. With a population of almost 31,000, Rochester is the largest city in the seacoast region and fourth largest city in New Hampshire. Encompassing 48 square miles of rolling hills and rivers, Rochester is conveniently located only a short distance from New Hampshire's famous Lakes Region, the White Mountains with its ski resorts and the Seacoast with its superb beaches.

Whether covered with its famous lilacs in the spring, flowers blooming in the summer, spectacular autumn foliage or fresh-fallen snow, the Rochester area is a scenic delight.

Madbury NH

Madbury was originally a part of Dover called "Barbadoes," after the West Indies island of Barbados with which settlers conducted trade, sending wood and lumber in exchange for sugar, molasses and other commodities. The name survives at Barbadoes Pond. Garrison houses were built as protection against the Indians. Later it was part of Durham, a Dover parish which organized in 1716 and then incorporated in 1735. Madbury was once the farm of Sir Francis Champernowne of Geenland, and named after his ancient family's mansion at Modbury in Devon, England.

According to historian Jeremy Belknap, the area was called Wecohamet by native Abenaki Indians. The first known European to explore the region was Martin Pring from Bristol, England in 1603. Settled in 1623 as Hilton's Point by brothers William and Edward Hilton, Dover is the oldest permanent settlement in New Hampshire, and the seventh oldest in the United States. It is one of the colony's three original townships, and once included Durham, Madbury, Newington and Lee. It also included Somersworth and Rollinsford, together which Indians called Newichawannock after the Newichawannock River, now Salmon Falls River.

Dover NH - The Brick House

The Dover Brick House opened in September 2004. Owner Chris Otash and General Contractor Jeff Halldorson decided to turn this old vacant, historic building into a great new location for live music. With a little help from Birchwood rental properties and a few friends construction began in late March 2004.

Beginning with the site design, the owner should be involved in the placement of the structure. Building the home parallel with the road is not always the best choice. Small lots leave fewer choices for turning the home one way or another but the garage location usually is still an option.
